Crafting a Dynamic Solo with Sonya

Have you been wishing to solo, but don't know where to start? Been soloing for a while, but feel stuck in a rut?  This workshop can help you find your own authentic dance voice, or help refine your existing skills. We'll focus on how to vary your movement to convey different images and emotions, staging, and nuances of performance. All levels welcome, there's a little something for everyone.

Sonya has been dancing all her life, but found her love of bellydance in 1997, with the incomparable Z-Helene in Austin, TX.  After years of study with her, she became the assistant teacher at Austin Community College until she moved to Durham, NC, to escape the brutal summers.  She has also taken workshops with many notable instructors to expand her style, including Elena Lentini, Mahmoud Reda, Artemis, Zoe Jakes, and Mardi Love.  She now produces a show once a month at a Durham bottle shop, and welcomes all to come share the love of the dance.

Fee: $30 until Feb. 25/ $35 after
