Intermediate & Advanced Bellydance Technique is designed for students who practice at home and want to be challenged in class. In each class we’ll start with a conditioning and drills section designed to help students improve crucial dance skills such as fluidity, balance, strength, coordination, precision and grace. In our technique section, we’ll work on adding depth and interest to bellydance performances by adding layering, movement dynamics, musicality, and complex traveling.

Students of any style are welcome and you do not need instructor approval in order to enroll. However, please be aware that in this class basic isolations and techniques will not be reviewed or covered, so please make sure you are familiar with the content in the Fundamentals curriculum if you wish to attend. (Here is the curriculum: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bcsu_cQ-4l6eYravjmaHhjNOJT6CmF-yDrk-OKJ7A_s/edit?usp=sharing)

Please wear form-fitting exercise pants, shorts or capris. You may wear dance shoes if you like, or you may go barefoot. Each class will include a recap which you can record on video, so bring a video device (such as a smartphone or a digital camera) if you like.
Please feel free to send questions about the content of this class to Sara at skbeaman@gmail.com.

Slow Choreography and Improvisation

Slow bellydance can be dramatic, languid and gorgeous… or, unfortunately, more than a little boring. During this session we’ll learn how to enrapture audiences to music played at a snail’s pace–or even music without a drumbeat. In addition to teaching a short slow choreography, Sara will teach some basic elements of Middle Eastern music. Students will learn how to identify common instruments and rhythms, and use this knowledge to explore a simple framework for traditional slow solo improv (taqsim). Anyone with over one year of previous bellydance experience is welcome in this class!

Session begins on April 4 based on a minimum of 3 preregistered students. Drop-ins welcome as space permits at $20 per class.  Maximum enrollment: 12 students. Please note: this is a 5 week session and each class is 90 minutes long. Class dates are April 4, 11, 18, 25 & May 2. There is no class on May 9.
